Forming Operator Trainee

Primary Function:

Successful candidates will enter into Shreveport’s Forming Operator training program.  During the training program, trainees must demonstrate an understanding of all tasks associated with the operation of Libbey’s glass forming machines and demonstrate an ability to perform these tasks to produce quality glassware efficiently. 


Forming Operator Trainees who become Qualified Operators will be paid the B‑2 rate when not performing the job of Operator or Relief Operator. Senior Trainees will fill all future Forming Operator open positions. Once qualified as a B3 Forming Operator can earn up to $22.81 an hour plus bonus potential of up to 20%.



Key Job Elements:

  • Perform all operational tasks safely in the production environment
  • Develop a thorough understanding of forming machine operations and glass making process validated by a series of written, oral interview, and on-machine testing assessments
  • Discipline to perform tasks as defined by Libbey standards in order to reduce variation in all processes
  • Develop and apply a disciplined approach to problem solving to drive continual improvement within all processes
  • Develop an understanding and apply LEAN manufacturing methodology to drive continuous improvement in glass Quality, lower Costs, and on time Delivery to our customers.
  •  Display behaviors, sound judgment, and professionalism consistent with Libbey’s Values and contribute to a culture based on Teamwork and Continuous Improvement 


Specific Skills / Experience:

  • Successfully pass computerized assessments consisting of math, mechanical, reading, and problem solving skills
  • Satisfactorily complete a job specific physical for position
  • Work in glass production area safely with associated personal protection equipment (PPE)
  • Able to demonstrate ability to use mechanical tools in and around stationary and moving equipment
  • Successfully pass a battery of written, oral, and on-machine assessments during training program
  • Able to work a 12 hour rotating shift, perform heavy lifting, and work in and around extreme heat
  • Career position with a four (4) year minimum commitment to Forming department
