Position Title:                  Global Director – EH&S

Department:                     Global Engineering

FLSA Status:                    Exempt

Pay Grade Level:             18

Reports to:                      VP – Global Engineering

 

Primary Functions:  Formulates and leads the execution of the company’s global environmental and occupational health and safety (EH&S) management strategies assuring compliance with governmental regulations and the promotion of industry best practices.

 

Responsibilities include:                                            

 

  1. Personable communication with various EH&S stakeholders (customers, employees, suppliers, consumers, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations – NGOs, etc.) related to inquiries and requests for information.
  2. Policy and procedure development, implementation and maintenance.
  3. Consultation regarding compliance with national, federal, provincial, state and local regulatory compliance.
  4. Provide advisory services to senior management, regional staff and operating employees in matters of EH&S and risk management.
  5. Develop, implement and audit government-mandated and Libbey-directed EH&S training programs.
  6. Develop, implement and maintain government-mandated, customer-requested and Libbey-directed EH&S metrics.
  7. Provide technical support to the Libbey Legal Department in matters relating to EH&S. 
  8. Provide technical support to Human Resources and the facility Medical Departments in matters regarding occupational safety and health.
  9. Maintain an active involvement in professional organizations that provide professional development, provide opportunities for the improvement of occupational safety and health efforts and enhance Libbey’s public image.
  10. Provide assistance and technical support relative to the professional development and personal growth of Libbey’s EH&S personnel, globally.
  11. Develop and coordinate methods to promote environmental stewardship and occupational safety and health awareness throughout the Company.

 

Requirements:

 

  1. Bachelor’s Degree (biological or physical science or engineering preferred). Master’s degree is a plus.
  2. Professional EH&S certification (i.e. CIH, CSP, CHMM)
  3. Fifteen (15) years pertinent experience in a manufacturing industry, professional consulting, or with an EH&S regulatory agency.
  4. Willing to travel internationally.

  • Knowledge of EH&S regulations, with the proven ability to apply to manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene sampling and analytical strategies.
  • Understanding of data-driven risk assessment and mitigation principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

 

  1. Preferred Background / Experience:
  • Experience in the interpretation, implementation and coordination of US OSHA General Industry Standards specifically, Hazard Communication and Globally Harmonized System, Lockout / Tagout, Electric Safety and Arc Flash, Confined Space, Respiratory Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, Welding Hazards, Silica, Lead, and Cadmium.
  • Experience in the interpretation, implementation and coordination of US EPA regulations applicable to company operations including air pollution, water use and wastewater discharges, and waste management and recycling activities.
  • Experience dealing with governmental agencies including personal interactions related to agency inspections and responses to citations.
  • Experience establishing EH&S management systems such as ISO 14001 and/or ANSI Z10.
  • CIH, CSP and/or CHMM certification(s)
  • Experience with SDS management systems
  • Industrial hygiene sampling experience
  • Glass industry or other heavy industry work experience

  1. Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including a tight-fitting air purifying respirator.
  • Frequent sitting, using hands/fingers to operate office tools and sampling equipment.
  • Frequent speaking/listening in face-to-face and/or telephone conversations.
  • Occasional standing/walking in both office and factory environments.
  • Occasional reaching above shoulders, stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel will be required.
