Manager, NPD Project Management

The Manager, NPD Project Management is an essential role at Libbey, leading cross-functional teams to ensure that product development objectives across all business units are delivered on time and produce the desired results. This individual owns the Stage Gate process and is the go-to for everything involving prioritization, timelines, resource allocation and delivering new product development projects successfully.

 

Critical competencies for this role include strong leadership, project and risk management, organization and planning skills. The Manager, NPD Project Management must be an excellent communicator and possess strong negotiating skills for problem solving. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Govern the Stage-Gate product development process, leading the organization through adherence of the process, ensuring project alignment with strategic priorities and balancing limited resources.
  • Lead and develop a regional team of project managers focused on new product project management.
  • Manage and drive strategic, high-profile projects to successful completion.
  • Working with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, supply chain, engineering, pricing and finance, identify common bottlenecks and tripping points to improve project planning and schedule management.
  • Collaborate and communicate with senior business leadership on portfolio alignment, resource allocation, risks, budget, and issue escalation.
  • Provide an overview of product/project portfolio in collaboration with Category and Channel Managers.
  • Continually build on existing processes to improve delivery metrics.
  • Track and measure project performance, analyzing data for trends and identifying areas for improvement
  • Assist the PMO Director in the development, alignment, and prioritization of strategic department initiatives in support of the company vision.
  • Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects
  • Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Develop and maintain detailed project and resource plans to monitor and track progress of each project
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate control techniques
  • Perform risk management to minimize project risks, escalate issues as necessary.
  • Responsible for managing the project management team including mentoring and professional development
  • Instill a culture of customer service and responsiveness with department personnel and a sense of importance in providing that service
  • Create an environment that encourages excellence, recognizes and rewards initiative, imagination and work well done
  • Ensures that employees are adequately oriented and trained to perform their duties and assists and encourages employees in developing their skills and self-confidence

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate field of study or equivalent work experience
  • Proven working experience in project management, preferably through a stage gate process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong business acumen and strategic thinking skills
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification is a plus
  • Languages: Spanish (desired)
