Location:       Can be based in Toledo, OH or Columbus, OH

 

The Manager, Release & Quality Assurance oversees and manages the packaging and delivery of software releases to production environments. This role will coordinate releases related to upgrades, projects, enhancements and fixes. A crucial part of this role will be developing and enforcing testing standards, strategies and processes. With cooperation from internal and external stakeholders, the RQA Manager will ensure quality measures are met for each stage gate in the release cycle.  

 

Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to ensure smooth and reliable delivery of software and systems to fulfill business objectives, support business processes, and ensure business continuity
  • Develop a strategy and roadmap for building automation to cover smoke, regression, functional and performance testing
  • Accountable for implementation and adoption of enabling technologies and processes by collaborating with stakeholders
  • Conduct research on leading release and quality management practices and tools and technologies landscape to justify recommendations and to support purchasing or optimization efforts

 

Operational Management

  • Lead the effort to define the IT strategy for test automation and any required release management tools
  • Assist in managing projects and interdependencies to ensure milestone adherence and that the integrity of the release can be measured
  • Assist the Program/Project Manager and the development team members in planning each release while working project stakeholders on test plans and scripts
  • Proactively plan the release windows across projects and portfolios
  • Harmonize test schedules in accordance with release calendars
  • Ensure that testing activities allow applications to meet business requirements and systems goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify existing or potential issues
  • Collaborate with software/systems personnel in application testing, such as system, unit, regression, load, and acceptance testing methods
  • Communicate test progress, test results, and other relevant information to project stakeholders and executive management
  • Manage risks and issues that may affect release scope and schedule
  • Conduct release readiness reviews, milestone reviews, and business go/no-go reviews
  • Work with release engineers to understand impacts of branches and code merges
  • Maintain the release schedule for all core services and ensure alignment across all systems
  • Ensure that a detailed deployment plan has been documented along with a back-out plan in the event anything goes wrong during deployment
  • Lead and co-ordinate the go-live activities including the execution of the deployment plans and checklists.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss release scope and/or roadblocks
  • Release the pre-planned communications about the product to all stakeholders
  • Decisions and problem solving guided by policies, procedures and department plan; receives guidance from senior manager/director
  • Manages budget as assigned and uses it effectively.  May assist with headcount and estimated system and/or project needs
  • Participate and contribute to technology governance process meetings (Critical Design Review, New Technology Review, CAB)
  • Aligns function goals to strategic corporate and department objectives.  Helps develop associates through IDP development, coaching, and mentoring as applicable
  • Effectively partners with internal customers (technical or business) to accomplish goals of the company
  • Plans for roadblocks and develops alternatives to accomplishing a goal
  • Lead and deliver solutions that are effective and constructively impact the whole organization
  • Understands the underlying structure of things and looks deeper into the complexity of that structure
  • Works with 3rd party providers and vendors supporting the core business applications
  • Ensures that all processes and procedures including software changes are performed in an audit compliant manner, including Sarbanes Oxley as appropriate
  • Off hours demands may be frequent due to problem resolution or planned downtime events

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • 4-year college degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or other related degree.
  • 5+ years in RM/QA discipline with hands-on experience in developing test automation/strategy
  • Experience working with test automation frameworks/tools as applied to a Microsoft development stack
  • Experience with Incident Management systems preferred
  • Experience with Azure and Dynamics 365 preferred
  • Ability to travel occasionally, 10% or less
  • Certifications in ITIL foundations, PMP, or other related certification a plus

  2. Should be able to communicate, verbally and in writing, technical information regarding the status of issues to IT staff as well as internal stakeholders in language worded appropriately for the audience
  3. Ability to comprehend diverse technical subject matter
  4. Problem Solving/Troubleshooting – ability to resolve challenging issues with minimal assistance.  May be asked for recommendations for when to involve vendors vs. continue the internal troubleshooting process.  Initiate or contribute to timely root cause analysis
  5. Accountability - Must be able to follow direction and complete assigned tasks on time. May be asked to help others
